When should I switch to an earlier hybrid?
If planting gets delayed, you may consider switching to an earlier hybrid. Although this decision may vary depending on the region you live in, there are a few things to keep in mind when making this important decision including:
- The average frost date in the fall (this will affect the number of days you can collect GDUs to get the corn plant to maturity).
- The amount of GDUs a hybrid typically needs to reach physiological maturity (black layer) will change when planted later in the season.
If you have any questions regarding planting, contact your dealer or agronomist or click here to send us a note and we will get you in touch with them.
