My internship is winding down and farm shows season is starting to roll around, which means this week was my last week of traveling Producers Hybrids country. Originally, I was going to be in Iowa on Monday, Minnesota on Tuesday and Nebraska on Wednesday. Some of those plans held true, but as we can always expect in the agriculture industry, some of those plans changed.
On Monday I traveled to Marshall, Minnesota so I could be there bright and early Tuesday morning for the first intern plot day. Kally Philipp, the Minnesota agronomy intern and Hank Neyens, the Minnesota Sales intern, were hosting their own field day and I was excited to be in attendance.
Hank talked about the different corn and bean varieties and Kally presented on Dicamba and implications it could have in the future. As I took pictures and listened to them, I was impressed with their knowledge and ability to speak in front of a group that could be fairly intimidating at your first field day.
The intern field day made me realize how important it is to apply the knowledge you learn at your internship. Producers Hybrids does a great job of making sure that as interns we are not only learning, but we are applying that knowledge in real-life situations. Now,
when Hank and Kally graduate and are working their full-time jobs, they will be much more comfortable when it comes time for them to host their own field days and plot tours.
After a great day in Minnesota, I was ready to head to Nebraska for a tour of the demonstration plot in Battle Creek. However, the weather had something a little different planned for me. The event got rained out on Wednesday and pushed to Thursday. Then on Thursday the plot was still so wet that the event got cancelled altogether. I was disappointed to miss out on the tour, but the crops got a much-needed drink, so at the end of the day it all worked out for the best.
Stay tuned for tales from Farmfest in Redwood Falls, Minnesota next week and remember to roll with the punches because it always works out for the best! #ready4more
