As we were out looking at fields before #harvest17 started, we saw issues with stalk rot and Physoderma brown spot.
Cold rains early in the growing season can cause crown rot (pictured) to be visible in many fields. This rot stops the flow of nutrients to the rest of the plant and can lead to weakened stalks and significant losses in yield. In addition, Physoderma brown spot popped up after heavy rains in the middle of the growing season, around June and July; Physoderma can lead to standability issues, but still can result in decent yields.
While it’s hard to control the weather during a growing season, careful hybrid selection can aid in next year’s success. Your Sales Agronomist and District Sales Manager are great resources and can help you and your customers find the right products for your acres, especially when genetic resistance and growing conditions are issues in your operation.
