Replanting Decisions

Doug Ranslem (DSM, Region 4 – Eastern Nebraska)

Corn planting is at about 70-80% in my district in Eastern Nebraska. Recent heavy rains have caused erosion, low land flooding and standing water in many fields. I have received calls about spot and field replanting from several customers. Many of the questions asked are about the maturity of hybrid that should be used at this time for replant. We are still early enough that I would suggest staying with the same or similar maturity until late May to ensure maximum yield results this fall. In Eastern Nebraska, I would not consider changing to an earlier hybrid until May 25th, at the earliest. You may have to wait for drier corn in the fall, but the increased yield will offset that.

Your Producers Hybrids District Sales Manager has many varieties available to help fill replant needs. Give your local DSM a call to discuss your situation. They will be happy to help you decide what is the correct fit for your specific situation.
