Importance of Understanding Trait Packages

Hi All!

I am Chelsy Sonnichsen, a new member to the Producers Hybrids Team in West Central Iowa.  I am now two weeks into my adventure with Producers and have had a great experience. We are looking forward to an outstanding year filled with excitement from our dealers and growers!

One thing that has become a large part of my young career is to understand insect trait packages.  It is very important to scout growing fields and review field history when placing hybrids and deciding on trait packages.  Across the industry, there are numerous different trait packages.  Here at Producers, we utilize the Genuity Trait Lineup, including Genuity SmartStax RIB Complete, Genuity VT Triple PRO RIB and Genuity VT Double PRO RIB.

The most common question I receive from growers is, “I trust your selling me what I need, but what does it all mean?” It is my goal to answer this question for many of you.

Genuity SmartStax RIB Complete:

  • The ONLY trait package I recommend for any grower with Corn Rootworm pressure.
  • Provides above ground protection against Black Cutworm, Corn Earworm, Fall Armyworm, Stalk Borer and Western Bean Cutworm.
  • Provides dual mode protection against Corn Borer and Rootworm.
  • All units are premixed with a 5% Refuge in Bag (RIB).

Genuity VT Triple PRO RIB Complete:

  • This trait package will perform well on a rotated acre or a corn/corn rotation with minimal Corn Rootworm pressure.
  • Provides above ground protection against Fall Armyworm and Corn Earworm.
  • Provides dual mode protection against Corn Borer and a single mode against Rootworm.
  • All units are premixed with a 10% Refuge in Bag (RIB).

Genuity VT Double PRO RIB Complete:

  • This trait package is the most cost effective package for a hybrid placed on a rotated acre.
  • Provides above ground protection against Fall Armyworm and Corn Earworm.
  • Provides dual mode protection against Corn Borer.
  • No protection against Corn Rootworm.
  • All units are premixed with a 5% Refuge in Bag (RIB).

As we approach the upcoming planting season, communicate with your dealer or District Sales Manager the insect protection needs for your operation.  I am looking forward to building relationships and having the “trait” discussion with many growers in my territory! Best wishes as we approach planting season and God Bless!!
